Local Gemma

Use Local Gemma honestly.

Local Gemma is labeled Offline Beta. It can be useful when privacy or connectivity matters, but it should be tested carefully for completeness, JSON validity, and source coverage.

  • Download and smoke-test a model before relying on it.
  • Use OCR text-only where available on iOS.
  • If output is too short, malformed, or incomplete, use a cloud provider or a smaller page chunk.
  • Raw native errors should be reported; normal users should see recovery actions.

Voices

Local voices are curated.

  • Only recommended local voices appear by default.
  • Show all voices is an advanced setting for testing.
  • Use pronunciation dictionary entries for Chassidus terms when reading English aloud.

Storage

Downloads are rebuildable.

Large model, OCR, Sefaria, corpus, and local voice files are not included in backup ZIPs or cloud backups. The backup stores install intent/manifest information so the app can help re-download later.
