Shared device

Library station setup.

Use this guide for a tethered iPad, Android tablet, or Mac placed near book stacks or archives for supervised patron use.

Setup

Prepare the station before patrons use it.

  • Use a managed, charging-mounted device with reliable Wi-Fi.
  • Staff should configure provider keys and default models.
  • Set library-station profile and guided interface level.
  • Enable clear-session workflow and idle timeout when available.
  • Post visible privacy and content-rights instructions next to the device.

Patron flow

Keep the workflow short and safe.

  1. Create a temporary project.
  2. Scan, import, or browse a corpus PDF.
  3. Select a small page range and translate.
  4. Review sources and export/share results.
  5. Clear local session before leaving.

Privacy

Do not leave personal data behind.

Patrons should not enter personal API keys or leave private projects on a shared device. Staff-managed provider settings are safer for library stations.

Maintenance

Staff checklist

  • Run app updates regularly.
  • Check backup and health status.
  • Clear old temporary projects.
  • Review Global Library submissions and reports if the station supports contributions.
  • Verify corpus catalog sync and download storage.
